About Animals in Action at the San Diego Zoo

At “Animals in Action,” that’s exactly what you’ll see!

Ever wonder how exotic cats can navigate a tree branch while maintaining perfect balance, or how a cheetah and a dog can get along? Join us to see how our world-famous trainers encourage natural animal behaviors at the San Diego Zoo. Learn how these behaviors can also help with daily animal care routines—and hear amazing inside stories about each animal you meet. Someone from the audience might even be invited to join in a training session!

Go behind the scenes for a close-up view of some of our animal ambassadors, and get an opportunity to feed flamingos (no guarantees). Reserve today for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see trainers and animals in action. You may even take away a few tips on how to train your own pet!

This fun and interactive experience will show you how the San Diego Zoo cares for its animals and ensures their welfare, and what we are doing to help protect and save species—here and around the world—as we lead the fight to end extinction.

Guests should wear comfortable walking shoes (closed toe are recommended) and dress appropriately for the weather. This program takes place outdoors and includes a short walk to a behind-the-scenes area. This program may be canceled in the event of inclement weather, including rain. Children under age 15 must be accompanied by an adult age 18+ Our animal experiences are subject to change, based on the animals’ health and safety needs.

• Service animals: To ensure the safety of our Animal Ambassadors and guests, service animals are not permitted in this program. Please contact Linda Quesnell (ADA Committee) at x4526 to assist guests who have service animals with options for their animals during this program.

Admission

• Admission is NOT included in the price of the Animals in Action and is required. Please ensure each guest has a valid Admission ticket or Membership.

Age Restrictions

• Minimum age 5 years (no exceptions). Proof of children's ages may be required.
• Maximum of 2 children ages 5 – 15 per adult in a party.

Change / Cancel Policy

• Changes or cancellations are not permitted.

Check In

• Arrive 10 minutes prior to program time
• Location: Animals In Action entrance gate (center of Urban Jungle)
• Printed tickets must be presented at check in.

Frequency

• 11:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m. (seasonal; check availability)
• 1 hour
• Thursdays - Sundays starting October 1, 2016
• Daily during peak times (summer; holiday periods)
• Availability may be limited (no Tuesdays or Wednesdays) during non-peak times

Program Advisements (Mandatory)

• Allow sufficient time for travel to the Zoo, parking, and to find Check In location

• Allow additional time for busy summer and holiday periods

• No food or beverages allowed (bottled water okay; iced water provided)
• No large or bulky camera equipment such as tripods or large camera bags.
• San Diego Zoo reserves the right to re-route or cancel any tour due to inclement weather, animal health, or safety concerns.
• Proof of children's ages may be required.
